Baiona is the perfect base for a holiday in Galicia on the Rias Baixas coast. This noble seaside town has a rich culture, history and gastronomy, a true coastal gem not to be missed! On this short break, you will start with a Baiona Gourmet Food Tour, a gastronomic journey through the Old Town, where the aromas of Galician fine wines mix with the flavours of freshly made tapas. Walk along the historic Port of Baiona, soaking in the atmosphere and admiring the beautiful views of the bay of Baiona with its quaint fishing boats. Enjoy the seafood delicacies with the picturesque bay in the background. Wander around the charming streets, stopping at traditional taverns to indulge in local seafood dishes like Navajas (Razor Clams), Zamburiñas (Baby Scallops), and even some innovative tapas. All of this is paired with excellent wines, capturing the essence of Galicia´s culinary traditions, and concluding with a sweet ending.
Continue your adventure with a guided 4x4 safari around A Groba Hill on your 2nd day, where the experienced local horse guide Adrian introduces you to the world of Garrano wild horses. Discover their natural behaviours in the mountains of Serra da Groba, appreciating the ancient origins of this endangered breed. Stop for a scenic picnic on the hill´s lookout points, trying locally sourced products with panoramic views of Baiona. Get to know the unique celebration of A Rapa das Bestas during June and July, a very ancient tradition where the wild horses (Garranos) are gathered in a corral to trim their manes and to check their health, then they let them free and they go running with them up to the hills. You won't stop being surprised during your short break in Baiona!
On the last full day, you will explore the sub-zones of Condado de Tea and O Rosal, in the Appellation of Origin Rias Baixas wine region. Taste the excellent small batch organic Albariño wines (the signature wine of the Rias Baixas region) paired with some of the locally sourced products at a winery. Our 2nd winery will be one of the most important ones of the region making not only wines of Albariño but as well as O Rosal wine a blended white wine with other local varietals like Caiño blanco and Loreiro. After the winery visits, you will head to A Guarda to have the best Lobster rice in Galicia! Ending the day with a visit to the Celtic Hillfort of Santa Trega and a panoramic coastal drive back to Baiona.
During your short break in Baiona, you will stay at the stunning Parador de Baiona, a medieval fortress offering elegance, sea-view rooms, and well-kept gardens, providing a relaxing retreat to enjoy the magic of this coastal town on the Rias Baixas Coast.
