The geographical area is known as the lower Rias Baixas and Baixo Miño, it is the coastline that follows down from Vigo to A Guarda -the last village of the Galician coast before reaching Northern Portugal- Then the river Miño flows into the Atlantic Ocean separating Galicia from Portugal.
Condado de Tea (Tea County) is one of the 5 subzones of the Rias Baixas Appellation of Origin. and is located in an unspoiled environment full of nature, alongside the Miño and Tea River valleys. It is the second in volume of wine production in the Rias Baixas D.O. Its wines are made with grapes from the Albarino, Treixadura, and Loureiro varieties in a minimum of 70% of Albariño, and the rest of other white varieties. The O Rosal valley is another sub-zone of the Rias Baixas Appellation of Origin. Here they make Albariño wine as well as the local Rosal wines which are a blend of different local grape varieties (Caiño Blanco, Louriero, and Abariño). We will take a detailed tour of one of the most important wineries of the region and try the difference between the types of wines produced.
Adega Corisca is the first eco-organic winery in the Rias Baixas wine country. Founded in 2009, this winery follows all the principles of cultivating wine respecting nature; reflecting the heritage, family tradition, and passion for growing wine in a responsible and sustainable way. Corisca wine is a healthy and quality wine that specializes in the Albarino grape variety organically farmed using over 40-year-old vines. Some of the vineyards are situated on about 2 hectares of the Miño river valley, in Salceda de Caselas, Pontevedra. The oldest crops are located in Finca de Muiño, many of them over 45 years old.
Bodegas Terras Gauda is the largest privately owned winery in the Rias Baixas D.O., they have a breathtaking vineyard which we will tour around and then taste their selection of high-end wines; 100% Albarino (Abadia de San Campio), Rosal Blend (Terras Gauda) and 98% Caiño Blanco with 1% Albariño & 1% Loureiro (La Mar).
We will enjoy the spectacular views from the top of a Celtic Hill-fort Santa Trega after indulging in seafood with different types of shellfish and the Bogavante Atlantic Blue Lobster which the town of A Guarda is famed for! These fruits of the sea go paired best with the local Rosal wine.
