Introduction

Sustainable Boat Ride Aboard a Restored Traditional Mussel Boat on Vigo Bay

We start off our ultimate food and wine tour of Vigo Bay with a wonderful boat ride on a restored traditional mussel boat. The route will be take you up close to the Bateas (sustainable mussel farms)  in Moaña, and then, depending on the wind, you will go towards Limens (Cies Islands, without disembarking) or towards the interior of the estuary, Puente de Rande (Rande Bridge), Meirande. Learn about the history of the traditional methods of fishing in Galicia and admire the beautiful scenery of golden beaches, dramatic coastline, and fishing villages situated on the banks of Vigo Bay. You will also have onboard a tasting of the amazing Galician Mussels paired with local white wine to get a glimpse of the rich gastronomy of this region.

Taste the hard-to-find Wines of Ribeiras do Morrazo Wine Region

In the small protected wine region of IXP Ribeiras do Morrazo excellent wines are made with local grapes like the Albariño, Treixadura, Godello, etc... for whites, and the Mencia, Souson, Pedral, etc... for reds. Some wines can be blends and others mono-varietal. We will visit a family-run winery that has won international awards for its small batch of hard-to-find wines. The vineyards surround the quaint Galician Country Home of Os Areeiros, after our visit, we will taste their wines paired with some locally sourced products.

Taste with us the best Beef of Galicia (Ternera Galega), a delicacy here in A Fraga, Moaña. Important people have come to A Fraga dating as far back as 1857 to taste the famous Chuleton de MoañaAlfonso XII came here to try it, and said it was the best steak he has ever had! He even brought some meat back with him to the land of Castile, Spain!

An Ultimate Gastronomic Food Tour for both Seafood & Meat Lovers!

Day by day itinerary

DAY1:

VIGO, BAIONA OR SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA - VIGO BAY - VILABOA - MOAÑA - VIGO, BAIONA OR SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

  • Private Group Mussel Boat ride on Vigo Bay and Winery visit with special lunch at a seafood restaurant or Galician Tavern Specialized in Beef  (Duration: 7hrs30mins. approx.)
  • 09:30AM: In the morning meet your private English-Speaking  Food & Wine Expert Guide in the lobby of your hotel or pick up from the cruise ship port.
  • 10:00AM: Starting with a short walk along the nautical port from your cruise ship where we will board a mussel boat converted into a unique excursion boat to learn all about sustainable mussel farming on Vigo Bay.
  • 12:00PM: We will disembark on the other side of the bay at the nautical port of Vilaboa.
  • From here our minivan with our driver will pick us up and transfer us to a nearby small boutique winery in a traditional Galician manor house.
  • 12:30PM: Here we will take a walk around the vineyards and learn a bit about the viticulture of this small protected wine region IXP Ribeiras do Morrazo. They use local grapes like the Albariño, Treixadura, Godello, etc... for whites, and the Mencia, Souson, Pedral, etc... for reds. Some wines can be blends and others mono-varietal. We will pair the wines with gourmet conserved canned seafood and fish.
  • 02:00PM: Time for a very special lunch, we have a restaurant choice for both seafood and meat lovers! Down in the fishing village Moaña enjoy the freshest seafood and fish caught locally at gourmet seafood restaurant. Or if you prefer some high-quality meats, we can have lunch at a unique restaurant in the A Fraga River Valley specializing in Galician Beef as the owner is a beef sommelier!
  •  After our amazing lunch, we will take a walk along port of Moaña for views of the bay on this side, or if you prefer a walk in the A Fraga forest where we will take a short walk to a magical tree of wishes "El Arbol de Los Deseos", we can decide what you prefer after lunch as it is all nearby.
  • Then we will be transferred by highway back to Vigo.
  • 04:30PM-05:00PM approx.:  Ending at your hotel or your cruise ship and a final goodbye from your guide.
