Mercado de Abastos - Santiago de Compostela´s Farmers Market

The other cathedral of Santiago the Compostela, The Food Cathedral of the city. The second most visited place in the city where people come to shop and see all types of locally sourced products, a Slow Food Heaven. The current building was Inaugurated in 1941, but there was previously a smaller market here built in 1873.   • Now we walk to the Market of Santiago de Compostela (Mercado de Abastos de Santiago). The second most visited monument in the city, besides the Cathedral.
  • Take a stroll through the market to see the fresh fish and seafood, meats, cheeses, empanada pies, locally grown veggies, liqueurs, etc. Our local expert foodie guide will explain all about the products that you see.
  • After the market visit enjoy some cheeses right in the market.
  • We offer you a guided tour of some of Santiago´s finest tapas bars with commented tastings and an explanation of the different tapas savored. 
  • Stop at your 1st tapas stop located near the food market (Mercado de Abastos de Santiago de Compostela) and taste the Galician white and red wines paired with innovative tapas Galician tapas.
  • After that explore the streets of the old town of Santiago de Compostela until you get to your 2nd tapas stop to taste traditional tapas paired with Galician wines.
  • From there make your way to the 3rd and last tapas stop to taste tapas elaborated with fresh locally sourced products.
  • 03:30PM approx: The final goodbye of our Food & Wine Expert Guide at the last tapas stop in the Old Quarter.

  • There is no dress code, but we recommend comfortable walking shoes since we will be walking through the city street.
  • Please advise if you have any restrictions regarding types of food due to allergies, diet, or religious reasions. This must be included in the comments when you make the booking of this tour.
  • No age restrictions: Kids that are from 6 to 11 years old inclusively are allowed on the tour and rates are specified in the price options. You can select the number of children at the time of the book. If under 6 years old kids can still join but any expenses for food or beverages must be paid directly at the venue by the parents.

Cancellation policy

  • Cancellations that are made in writing more than 72hrs before the start time will be refunded fully.  Cancellations 72hrs or less are 100% non-refundable.
  • In the case of bars/restaurants as described above are closed due to unforeseen circumstances we will change to a similar bar/restaurant. In the circumstance if we cannot get three food stops due to availability we will substitute with more food & drinks at two stops. It usually is 3 food locations, but we reserve the right to offer the same amount of food & drinks but at two restaurants/bars.
