We have 2 exciting episodes to cover the Festival of The Discovery of the Americas to Europe: La Arribada Festival in Baiona, Galicia, Spain
In this 2nd episode, we will take you aboard virtually the replica of La Pinta live on Heygo! The replica sits at the nautical port in Baiona and has a museum inside. Hard to believe these relatively small Caravel ships crossed the wild Atlantic to the Americas and made it all the way back!
After seeing inside this unique boat museum, we walk will through the streets and squares of the old part of the town declared a Site of Historic-Artistic Interest and brought back in time as The Royal Medieval Market. You will see all the stalls with different types of food (eg. octopus, churrasco ribs and meats, empanada pie, sweets, wines, etc..), artisan crafts (eg. ceramics, leather, costume jewelry, etc…), and with every dress to the era providing a great atmosphere!
La Arribada (The Arrival), an unforgettable festival in Baiona.
They celebrate every year the first weekend of March, La Arribada (The Arrival), which is a festival of International Tourist Interest and is one of the most important festivals in Spain. It brings the whole village of Baiona back over 500 years to medieval times!
The mayor himself Carlos Gómez Prado loved the idea of us doing virtual tours on Heygo for the event and has given us special press access to the whole event, Thank you Concello de Baiona y Turismo de Baiona. We will even be dressed in all the medieval outfits they will provide to us!
If you didn’t know, it was Christopher Columbus that set sail from Puerto de Palos de la Frontera, Huelva, Spain with 3 Caravel ships: La Pinta, La Niña, and the Santa Maria in August 1492. When they came back to bring the word of the discovery of the Americas, it was La Pinta that arrived the fastest and came into the bay of Baiona arriving at Praia Ribeira on March 1st, 1493.
