Do you like to hear stories about local legends, myths, and folklore when travelling to a new destination? In Galicia, there are so many, and we are going to take you to a place on this live virtual tour that comes to life when the legends are told by our guide! We will hike up Monte Faro Hill in Domaio, Moaña passing by eucalyptus, pine and chestnut trees on the woodland trail at about 220 metres high arriving at the magical place called A Poza da Moura. It is located on Monte Faro Hill which at the peak there is a lookout point towering over at 624 metres.
Up on the hill, we will see a couple of Muiños (Flour Mills) that use the power of the flowing stream to grind cornflour which started in this area during the 1700s. We stop to admire the breathtaking views of Vigo bay with the Rande bridge and the city of Vigo in the distance.
A Poza da Moura is a natural water pool, almost looks like a natural jacuzzi with a waterfall flowing from the stream of Miñouva into it amongst the granite rocks.
Here the legend says that many years ago a Mouro (A magical race living underground) with his beautiful daughter came to the lands of Domaio. The girl fell in love with a local farmer/peasant, but the father did not give consent for this relationship, so they use to sneak out at night and meet at the Poza da Moura. One night the father followed his daughter and surprised them at the natural pool, and killed the local farmer/peasant. The daughter with such anger and sadness jumped into the natural pool and disappeared in its waters. Now it is said, that since then on summer nights her cries can be heard from the depths of the pool. On the night of San Juan (St. John’s), according to the legend on the still water of the natural pool, a reflection of the Moura girl combing her long hair with a gold comb can be seen! A tragic love story legend of a magical place!
