The Ribeira Sacra (Sacred River Bank) is named for the many monasteries that line its dramatic river gorges. Throughout history, areas with a high concentration of monasteries often indicate the presence of exceptional wines, and Ribeira Sacra is no exception. This Denomination of Origin (D.O.) region in Galicia is best known for its limited but high-quality red wines made from the Mencia grape. Vineyards cling to the steep riverbanks, creating breathtaking landscapes and producing wines of remarkable character.
The first stop on our food & wine tour begins in the historic village of Cea, renowned for its delicious Pan de Cea. We will visit a small family bakery to taste this artisanal bread that has been made for centuries.
Next, we explore the breathtaking Ribeira Sacra wine region, specifically the Chantada/Miño River Valley. At Adega Os Cipreses, we’ll enjoy an exclusive visit strolling through the vineyards, and indulge in a wine tasting paired with local, sustainable products.
A gourmet lunch in the village of Chantada awaits, where we’ll savor slow food cuisine that highlights the region’s finest ingredients.
The journey continues with a visit to the Monastery of Oseira (Monasterio de Santa María la Real de Oseira), an architectural gem with centuries of history. Here, we’ll discover the monks’ handcrafted Eucaliptine Amber Herbal Liqueur (Licor de Hierbas Eucaliptine Ambar), a unique and time-honored digestif.
This immersive wine and gastronomy tour in Ribeira Sacra offers a perfect blend of sustainability, slow food, and cultural heritage, making it an unforgettable taste of authentic Galicia.
